Melbourne Polytechnic, formerly known as Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE (NMIT), is a TAFE institute located in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. NMIT was formed in 1988 through the amalgamation of Preston College of TAFE and Collingwood College of TAFE. The new entity was called Northern Metropolitan College of TAFE. In 1996, the name was changed to Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE and, in 1999 acronym NMIT was adopted. One of the most significant aspects of NMIT’s development is the links that the Institute has linked with industry and the community. It is one of NMIT's greatest strengths that students are taught by teachers who are directly involved and work in the industries in which they are teaching, and courses are designed to meet the needs of industry and business in the region.
Holmes Institute welcomes students from other universities to study subjects and have them accredited to their degree. This option might be of particular interest to students who wish to study during the summer. Institute draws on a wealth of experience and expertise in academic, language and study skills support that are available to all our students. Here three Trimesters are offered for its degree courses and you can plan ahead by confirming the schedule of all degree courses. If a particular trimester is not offered at any given campus, you may be able to transfer to another campus instead.
